First Wagon of the Mayan Train Arrives in Cancun
After a slight delay, the first wagon of the Mayan Train arrives in Cancun and they prepare for the first tests in September.
The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, welcomed in Cancun, Quintana Roo, the first wagon of the monumental Mayan Train project, one of the iconic works of his term.
Through a multimedia clip released on his social media channels, the national leader showed the newly arrived unit, providing views of both the exterior and interior of the car manufactured by the Mexican corporation Alstom, based in Hidalgo.
From the Cancun International Airport terminal, where garages and workshops corresponding to the Mayan Train station in Cancun are currently erected for the assembly of the trains, López Obrador, in the company of Governor Mara Lezama, proclaimed that this event is “a historical milestone”.
Maite Ramos Gómez, general director of Alstom Mexico, provided a detailed description of the wagon, a standard model with two passenger seats in each row. This was transferred from Ciudad Sahagún, Hidalgo, traveling a distance of 1,943 kilometers under the custody of the National Guard.

Upon entering the car, Ramos Gómez stressed that all the seats comply with international safety regulations and that they are “more comfortable than those on an airplane.” She highlighted conveniences like TV hookups, space for luggage and bikes, and accessibility for people with disabilities.
Regarding the driver’s cabin, she pointed out that the glass, although not reinforced, can resist certain calibers.
President López Obrador anticipated that dynamic tests will be carried out until September 1, for the inauguration in December of this year.
According to official information provided by the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur) and Alstom, the Mayan Train will have 42 trains, each with a capacity for 230 passengers.
