According to federal government estimates, the Mayan Train will generate profits in 6 years.

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, projects that the Mayan Train, which will travel 1,554 kilometers through five Mexican states, will begin to report benefits within six years.

Still in the evaluation phase, the construction of the Mayan Train, which will cross five southern states of Mexico, is expected to start producing benefits in at least six years, according to statements by the Mexican president.

“Yes, according to the initial calculations still under development, the investment in the project will begin to pay off in six years, since it is a very profitable initiative from an economic point of view”

affirmed the leader of the federal government.

According to figures provided by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), the investment that the federal government has channeled through the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur) for the execution of this project amounts, until 2022, to 230 thousand millions of pesos.

The Mayan Train is expected to start operations on December 1 of this year, crossing a 1,554-kilometer route through Tabasco, Chiapas, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo.

Recently, the Congress of the Union gave the green light to the modification of the Federal Rights Law and the General Tourism Law, with the objective of allocating 80% of the income obtained from the collection of visitors to the country for tourism purposes to planning , studies, projects and investment in infrastructure by the parastatal entity of the Federal Public Administration.
