The holistic scheme for the development of projects in Cancun, Quintana Roo, which includes the integration of these two important infrastructures, is advancing with an environmental study, in addition to the choice of transportation infrastructure under review.

The aim is to compensate any environmental impact resulting from these infrastructure works: for every 20 hectares affected, 353 hectares are allocated in the regional system for the integral management of vegetation, fauna, waste and establishment of nurseries.
“The mitigation initiatives seek to improve the quality of the wetlands in the lagoon system,” he said.
The four projects that make up this great scheme will be free of charge, benefiting 1.3 million residents of the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Solidaridad, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, as well as more than 20 million tourists who visit this area without the need of additional costs.
Both workers and visitors will be able to use these routes to travel from the metropolitan area to the airport and the hotel area.
The Minister also made reference to the Nichupté Vehicular Bridge, which will have an investment of 7,056 million pesos and will extend for 8.8 kilometers.
Currently, with 16% progress, this project will connect with the Colosio entrance, and work is underway on the foundation of the crossing. “We have already started with the lake part and this bridge will be finished in March next year.”
Luis Donaldo Colosio Boulevard is being rehabilitated with hydraulic concrete, an investment of 1,115 million pesos in a stretch of 13.3 kilometers.
It still remains to join the Colosio intersection to the “Ceviche” roundabout, with a progress of 58% and a completion date scheduled for the end of August of this year, two months before the initially estimated date.
The head of the MICT stated that a similar process is being carried out with the modernization of the Airport Distributor, with an investment of 365 million pesos, and it will also be completed by the end of August 2023.
“We have finished the structure and at the beginning of June we will start demolishing the old bridge.” This project is 48% advanced, with the construction of the entrance and exit roads already underway.

The balance between development and sustainability is essential in these projects, which demonstrates the government’s commitment to the environment and the quality of life of residents and visitors.

This will not only benefit tourists visiting Cancun, but also the growing local population of Quintana Roo, who will benefit from improvements in transportation infrastructure.
