According to the statements of the general director of the Mayan Train, the objective of the project is to provide a complete experience that allows the exploration of the Mayan historical legacy in its entirety.
The project consists of the construction of a railway route that will have 34 connection points, including 20 stations and 14 stops, with which it will be possible to travel the entire Yucatan peninsula, from Palenque to Boca del Cerro in Tenosique, Tabasco.
According to the official, the train will not only provide a tourist offer, but will also allow the mobility of people.
Lozano Águila stressed that the Mayan Train is a mega-project that will boost the southeast of the country, and that it will offer top quality tourist services to both international and national passengers.
In addition, six Tren Maya brand hotels are being built and airports in the region are being remodeled and expanded to reinforce the tourist offer.
The general director also highlighted that the project seeks to promote the work and development of the areas of the communities that will receive the benefit of the presence of the Mayan Train by offering associated tourist services, lodging, food, transportation, among others.
According to Lozano Águila, the operation and administration of the train will be in charge of the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) through the company Tren Maya S.A. de C.V.
To ensure the project is successful, people in Mexico and abroad are being trained to operate the train efficiently and safely.
The first train of the project is expected to arrive on July 8 of this year and will have four cars. As of that date, the railway cars, which are manufactured in Ciudad Sahagún, will continue to arrive until completing 42 in September 2024. With these trains, it is expected to be able to move 36,500 people daily.

The vision of the Mayan Train is to offer a comprehensive experience to learn about the Mayan historical past, allowing visitors to tour the entire Yucatan peninsula and discover all the archaeological sites in the southeast of the country.
But it is not only about attracting international tourists, but also about offering an opportunity to all Mexicans to discover and enjoy these cultural wonders.
The train will link stations with sites of cultural, tourist, ecological and archaeological interest, allowing all visitors to enjoy everything the region has to offer aboard the Mayan Train.
In addition, the Mayan Train has generated great interest in the tourism industry and has managed to establish synergies with various tour companies.
During his participation in the Tianguis Turístico, the general director of Tren Maya agreed to 70 meetings with different tourist companies, which will allow promoting the project and bringing tourists to areas that are isolated today.
The Mayan Train is in the construction stage and the first train is expected to arrive on July 8 of this year.
