The Mayan Train is Built 600% Faster than similar works in other countries

In a supervision tour of section 1 of the Mayan Train, Javier May assured that the Mayan Train is built 600% faster than similar works in other countries

Although the standard for these projects is usually a decade, the Mayan Train is expected to be operational in a third of that time, according to the General Director of the National Fund for Tourism Promotion (Fonatur), Javier May Rodríguez, during a inspection of the works in section 1, in Tenosique, Tabasco.

During this inspection visit that included the elevated structure in Tenosique and the Boca del Cerro bridge, Rodríguez announced that in October of this year tests will be carried out on the 226-kilometer route of the first section, from Palenque to Escárcega, once the construction has finished.

Accompanied by the General Director of Consorcio Lamat, Carlos Roldán Moya, the person in charge of the Tren Maya project announced that prior to its inauguration in December of this year, speed tests will be carried out up to 176 km/h, 10% more than its maximum capacity. , which is 160 km/h, to ensure its complete safety and efficiency.

Rodríguez emphasized that the infrastructure of the Mayan Train will be adequately isolated to prevent accidents, and that the railway operation technology will include sensors, cameras and other state-of-the-art tools to ensure that the Mayan Train is a totally safe transportation system, which will comply with all the certifications required by current regulations.

In addition, he stressed that the three interurban viaducts in the first section will add 5.8 kilometers, with Tenosique being the longest, with 2.9 kilometers.

Among other components, this section will include 73 segments of 40 meters in length and 130 tons, brought from Jalisco, which are built using a European technique that is being replicated in the Mayan Train.

Regarding the Boca del Cerro bridge, Rodríguez pointed out that it is one of the most significant engineering challenges of the Tren Maya project, and that the construction technology with successive voussoirs is the same used seven decades ago to build the old bridge, which makes this work in a true milestone of Mexican engineering.

The director of Fonatur revealed that at the end of June or the beginning of July the segments of the Boca del Cerro bridge will begin to be installed, which is expected to be ready in September.

This bridge will have a useful life of approximately one century, while the existing vehicular bridge will be rehabilitated to high standards to extend its useful life for at least three more decades.

“The Mayan Train means a settled debt with the southeast, a reduction in the gap of forgetfulness and delay, since today the president is doing justice to the southeast,” Rodríguez stressed.

In addition, he explained that the train is only a part of the integral project; it also implies the recovery of archaeological zones, the opportunity to show the world our roots, our unique ecosystems, and the rich cultural and natural diversity of the southeast and of Mexico as a whole.

“For me, it is an honor to accept this challenge, together with the president, that this project is going to be carried out. At this moment, it is the most important project worldwide; there is no other work that is being developed in the world like the one that is done in our country. The president has shown us that you can always achieve what you propose, as long as you have the support and backing of the people,” Rodríguez said.

On the other hand, the general director of Lamat, Carlos Roldán, stressed that the works in section 1 already have an advance of 88 percent and that up to now they have generated up to 12 thousand jobs; mostly occupied by local workers.

The Mayan Train project, according to Rodríguez during his supervision visit to section 1 in Tenosique, Tabasco, is consolidating at an unprecedented rate. Together with the Lamat Consortium, responsible for this section, he visited the works of the elevated structure in Tenosique and the bridge in Boca del Cerro.

The Mayan Train is not only a monumental infrastructure project that promises to revolutionize transportation and tourism in southeastern Mexico, but it is also a company that is generating employment and revaluing the cultural and natural heritage of the region.

The commitment to safety and technological innovation are key elements of this project, which aims to benefit local communities and the country as a whole.
