Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that the Mayan Train is a unique initiative at a global level, but that the citizens of the southeast also support the project.

In the customary morning briefing meeting, the country’s leader expressed that the communities and owners of small lands along the route of the Mayan Train benefit from assistance for production and social welfare.

He mentioned that, so far, the 1,554 kilometers of the route have been cleared, 1,500 passages for fauna have been built and the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) carries out unparalleled archaeological rescue work.

On this subject, the person in charge of INAH, Diego Prieto Hernández, stated that his institution carries out meticulous, valuable and rigorous recovery work, accumulating more than 50 terabytes of information that grows daily.

In the report of the third section of the Mayan Train, which runs from Calkiní, Campeche to Izamal, Yucatán, the official explained that the following have been registered and protected on the Puuc Route:

7,360 properties (foundations, albarradas, basements, etc.)
375 objects (metates, ceramics)
294,530 fragments studied
19 burials
119 associated natural features

The head of the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism, Javier May Rodríguez, recalled that the 159 kilometers of the third section cross 15 towns in Campeche and Yucatán.

92 kilometers of track have been built, the three viaducts are 63 percent complete and the set of additional works is 69 percent complete.

Likewise, 118 crossings for pedestrians, vehicles and wildlife are being built, with 89 percent progress. There is 100 percent of the necessary rail and 67 percent of sleepers and ballast.

In the third section of the Mayan Train, more than 11,000 jobs have been created. From the Mérida-Teya station the electrified double track begins; There are 60 kilometers in the third section, although the double track covers 700 kilometers to Chetumal.

The person in charge of the Mayan Train Operations Coordination Center, Blas Andrés Núñez Jordán, indicated that the military engineers of the Sedena collaborate in the rescue of the land that formerly housed the train station in the city of Mérida, Yucatán, known as La Plancha .

The project contemplates the planting of 1,964 additional trees, turning the park into a green space for the city center. It includes the remodeling of the Railway Museum and a gastronomic market, as well as various recreational areas.

As part of the redevelopment of the land, eleven relocated homes were delivered on December 20, 2022.

In addition, within the La Plancha area, there is the Yucatan State Higher School of Arts and the Museum of Light, under construction by the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

The work currently shows a progress of 75.81 percent, and its completion is expected on July 31. It is projected to generate around 800 jobs in total.

The Nuevo Uxmal park is being developed on a 2,200-hectare site near the Uxmal archaeological zone. The Calkiní-Campeche Mayan Train station will be 40 minutes away.

The construction progress is 38.86 percent, and it is expected to be completed on November 30.

The Nuevo Uxmal hotel presents a 43.26 percent progress in its construction, and its completion is expected for November 30. In both projects, the park and the hotel, 524 employees from the region work.

The majority state-owned company in charge of managing and operating the Mayan Train will have a corporate building in Mérida.

It will function as a multimodal communication center, thanks to its proximity to the port of Progreso, the Merida International Airport, the passenger cargo infrastructure and the road network.

The construction shows an advance of 16.23 percent and its completion is expected on December 31. So far, it has generated employment for 180 workers in the region.
