Contracting Process for the Maintenance of the Maya Train

The Ministry of National Defense is strengthening the security and quality of the railway system in southeastern Mexico.

The Ministry of National Defense informs the public and stakeholders in the railway sector about the formal start of the contracting process for preventive and corrective maintenance services for the Maya Train infrastructure, specifically sections 1, 2, 3, and 4.

This effort reaffirms the institution’s commitment to the safe and efficient operation of this strategic project.

As part of the comprehensive planning, a market research project has been launched to identify companies or consortia with the experience and technical capacity to carry out railway maintenance work this year.

The call for bids includes the participation of both national and international suppliers, thus ensuring diversity and competition in the process.

The deadline for receiving proposals is Tuesday, January 6. By this date, interested parties must submit their quotes, as well as information regarding human resources, specialized equipment, and prior experience in projects of similar magnitude.

The evaluation will consider operational capacity, compliance with requirements, and the total cost of the services offered.

Among the main objectives of the maintenance program are: safeguarding the security of railway facilities, raising the track quality standard, improving the user experience, extending the useful life of the infrastructure, and ensuring maximum system availability and efficiency.

These goals reflect the commitment to operational excellence and the satisfaction of passengers and freight customers.

Selected providers must have personnel available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to address any eventuality.

In the event of incidents requiring urgent corrective maintenance outside the scheduled scope, the response time must not exceed 24 hours after the incident is reported, thus guaranteeing timely and professional service.

It should be noted that, based on the information gathered, the Secretariat will define the most appropriate contracting method, whether through public bidding, restricted invitation, or direct award.

Details and progress of the process will be published in due course on the ComprasMX platform, in accordance with the principles of transparency and accountability.

In 2024, a national bidding process was conducted for the maintenance of section 5 North, which was canceled after the evaluation of technical and economic proposals.

This experience provides valuable lessons for strengthening current mechanisms and ensuring the selection of the best suppliers.

The Ministry of National Defense reiterates its commitment to excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement in the operation of the Maya Train, consolidating this project as an engine of safe and reliable development for southeastern Mexico.
