The new Mayan Train station in Nuevo Xcán, Quintana Roo, has officially begun operating this morning, following an inauguration ceremony attended by representatives from the three levels of government.

Captain Bulmaro Vargas Hernández, who is in charge of the station, highlighted that this new railway route will significantly boost the development of the surrounding communities and attract a considerable flow of tourists to the region.

Vargas Hernández stressed the importance of coordinated work between the station, local communities and the sectors involved to ensure that Nuevo Xcán and its surroundings experience sustained growth.

With the implementation of these joint efforts, the region is expected to position itself as a key point on the Maya Train route.

Departure times

Starting today, the Nuevo Xcán station will operate with four different departure times, providing extensive connectivity with other tourist and cultural destinations in the Yucatán Peninsula.

The scheduled departures are as follows:

  • 9:30 a.m.: Heading to Cancun and Palenque, Chiapas.
  • 12:30 p.m.: Departures to Cancun and Merida, Yucatan.
  • 4:30 p.m.: Two additional departures, one to Playa del Carmen and another to Campeche.
  • 9:00 p.m.: Night runs to Cancun and Merida.

It is worth mentioning that all times are governed by Central Mexico Standard Time, so in Quintana Roo they must be adjusted one hour ahead.

Train fares

Ticket prices vary depending on the destination and whether the passenger is a local or a visitor. The fares are detailed below:

  • Nuevo Xcán to Leona Vicario: 109.50 pesos for locals, 175 pesos for visitors.
  • Nuevo Xcán to Cancun: 197 pesos for locals, 314 pesos for visitors.

These fares have been published so that passengers can better plan their trip and take advantage of this new transportation option in the region.

Opening Ceremony and Activities

The inauguration of the Maya Train station in Nuevo Xcán was marked by a series of traditional ceremonies, including offerings of corn, beans and squash, carried out by students from the Universidad del Bienestar Benito Juárez García de Kantunilkin.

Following the ceremonies, the inaugural ribbon was cut by municipal, state and federal authorities, followed by a tour of the new station facilities.

With the opening of this station, Nuevo Xcán is fully integrated into the Maya Train network, offering its residents and visitors a direct connection to important destinations in southeastern Mexico, and marking a new chapter in the region’s tourism and economic development.
