Since its launch, the Mayan Train has emerged as a phenomenon in the field of transportation and tourism in Mexico, consolidating its success in just 55 days of operation.
In the usual conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, General David Lozano shared exciting details about the expansion and impact of this railway project.
Inauguration of a Key Section
On the 29th of this month, marks an important advance for the Mayan Train with the inauguration of the third stage of the project, which will connect Cancun Airport with Playa del Carmen. This segment, which covers 50.57 kilometers of double track, crosses one of the most touristic and busiest areas in the country.
In addition, on the 28th a supervision trip will be carried out from the Palenque station to Cancún, with the objective of increasing the operating speed from 120 to 140 kilometers per hour, reaffirming the commitment to safety and efficiency.
New Stations and Special Services
The opening of this new phase introduces two additional stations to the route: Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen, raising the total to 24 of the 34 planned stations.
In response to the president’s directives, special routes will be implemented for workers in the Riviera Maya, as well as tourist schedules strategically distributed throughout the day to maximize accessibility and convenience for travelers.

Impressive Operating Figures
Since its debut, the Mayan Train has transported 50,976 passengers, averaging 927 people daily. Mérida, Cancún, San Francisco de Campeche, Valladolid and Palenque emerge as the most popular destinations, demonstrating the diverse attraction of the train for both locals and tourists.
With an average occupancy rate of around 84%, equivalent to 186 passengers per convoy, the Maya Train not only meets the departure and arrival times, but also reflects the high demand and satisfaction among users.
