This Saturday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum toured various stations of the emblematic Mayan Train, highlighting its progress through Tulum, Felipe Carrillo Puerto and Bacalar.
With this tour, the president stressed that the Mayan Train is no longer just a dream, but a palpable reality for Mexico.
During the inauguration of the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Historical Museum, López Obrador recalled an emotional moment in 2019 when, in the Independence Day parade, a school presented a replica of a cardboard train, symbolizing what at that time was only a project.
“In a parade on September 16 of that year, a child carried a cardboard Mayan Train. Today, that dream is a reality,” said the president, excited by the progress of the project.
A project driven by the will of the people
President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum recognized the magnitude of the collective effort that has allowed the Mayan Train to become a reality in the southeast of the country.
“The beautiful thing is that we got here with a project that many saw as impossible, but with conviction, heart and thousands of hands of workers and military engineers, we have achieved it,” she said.
Sheinbaum did not fail to highlight the leadership of López Obrador, who has guided the construction of this monumental work.
For her, the Mayan Train is not only an infrastructure achievement, but an example that with commitment, what previously seemed unattainable can be achieved.

Challenges and overcoming in the construction of the Mayan Train
Throughout the construction process, the Maya Train has not been free of challenges.
López Obrador mentioned the multiple legal appeals and resources that were filed in an attempt to stop the project.
“There were many appeals for protection, but they were met with something stronger: the will of the people. When the people want, there is no one who can stop them,” the president firmly stated, making it clear that the work has had the majority support of citizens.
For his part, Diego Prieto Hernández, director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), celebrated the completion of the north and south sections 5 of the Maya Train.
“Just yesterday, we traveled from Cancun to Tulum, something that some said could not be achieved. But here we are, connecting the state of Quintana Roo with a historic work that benefits everyone,” he said, while those present enthusiastically chanted “Yes, we could!”
Connectivity and development for Quintana Roo
With the tour carried out this Saturday, it was clear that the Maya Train represents an infrastructure project, which also emerges as a symbol of development and connectivity for the southeastern Mexican region.
The connection between Tulum and Bacalar promises to boost tourism and the local economy.
