President Andrés Manuel López Obrador led the inauguration of the Jaguar National Park in Tulum, a vast natural space of more than a thousand hectares that adds to the cultural and tourist attractions of southeastern Mexico.
This work, carried out with a federal investment of two thousand 700 million pesos, strategically connects with the Mayan Train, the archaeological zone of Tulum and the “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” International Airport.
Accompanied by Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, president-elect, the president also inaugurated the Museum of the Eastern Coast, one of the jewels of the park.
During his speech, López Obrador highlighted that this effort strengthens the cultural, historical and environmental conservation of the region, while boosting tourism and the local economy.
A boost to tourism and culture
The Jaguar National Park is a natural conservation area and represents a significant boost for tourism in Tulum.
According to the president, this natural paradise will become one of the most important destinations in southeastern Mexico, thanks to its connection to the Mayan Train and the growing tourist infrastructure.
For her part, Claudia Sheinbaum stressed the relevance of this work as part of the recovery of Mayan history and culture, both from its ancestral past and from the present, where current Mayan communities continue to play an important role.
The president-elect also announced that her government will continue with key projects such as the cargo service of the Mayan Train and the Interoceanic Train, which will strengthen the economic development of the region.

A park with infrastructure for everyone
Román Meyer Falcón, head of the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu), detailed the works that have shaped the Jaguar National Park.
Among them, he highlighted the recovery of 300 hectares that previously functioned as an airfield and the construction of trails, bike paths and viewpoints.
The park also has seven accesses to public beaches, bike parking, a traditional smoke kitchen, and services for visitors, in addition to its direct connection to the Mayan Train station.
In 2023, the park received more than 600 thousand visitors and it is expected that by 2053 this figure will reach 2.4 million, making it a tourist reference at a national level.

Museum of the Eastern Coast: a space for Mayan history
The director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto Hernández, highlighted the importance of the Museum of the Eastern Coast, one of the key pieces within the park.
This museum, which houses more than 300 original pieces and 50 reproductions, is the largest in the Maya Train museum system and reflects the cultural and civilizing wealth of the Mayan culture.
With 1,200 square meters, the museum is positioned as one of the most emblematic spaces in Quintana Roo, dedicated to preserving and sharing with the world the greatness of a civilization that left a deep mark on the history of Mexico.
