Sedena tomará el control del Tren Maya

Confirmed, Sedena will take control of the Mayan Train

The federal president ratified in a press conference that the Sedena will take control of the Mayan Train.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), has announced a significant change in the administration of the Mayan Train. The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) will assume the direction of the project, displacing the National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism (Fonatur).

The transition will be led by General Oscar David Lozano Aguila, a key player in the development of this infrastructure. This change also marks the departure of Javier May, who will leave his position at Fonatur to seek the governorship of Tabasco.

The decision to entrust the management of the Mayan Train to Sedena has strategic foundations, AMLO explained. “This is a work financed by public funds, not through debt or public-private partnerships. It is an investment by the people, for the people, and we want to make sure that it remains in trustworthy hands,” the president said.

During a press conference, the president recalled past administrations that sold public goods at ridiculous prices, citing the time of Vicente Fox and the delivery of Fonatur land at low prices.

He also recalled the failed tourism project in Sinaloa during the government of Felipe Calderón. “Our goal is to avoid privatization and ensure a transparent and efficient administration. That is why we have entrusted this task to Sedena, a serious and responsible institution,” AMLO stressed.

López Obrador also highlighted the role of the armed forces in the country’s progress, pointing out not only their participation in the construction of segments 6 and 7 of the Mayan Train, but also other projects such as the Felipe Ángeles International Airport and more than 2,700 branches of the Wellness Bank.

The president gave a special recognition to Javier May for his dedication to the Mayan Train project. May, who has been with López Obrador for 30 years in different capacities, including the mayor of Comalcalco and the Senate, will now seek the candidacy for governor of Tabasco.

The administrative restructuring of the Mayan Train comes at a crucial moment. The work is seen as a way to balance the development of the country, especially in the southeast, a region that has been historically marginalized.

“This project represents a new opportunity for the generation of wealth, but in a way that allows its more equitable distribution,” declared AMLO.

Finally, the president highlighted the importance of this project for the future. “It is time to think about the new generations. This region, with its rich culture, natural beauty and cities like Campeche and Mérida, is almost a paradise on earth. With the Mayan Train, we want to give everyone the opportunity to share in this wealth,” he concluded.

With these changes, the Mayan Train is in a new stage that seems to guarantee not only its completion but also its long-term sustainability.

Sedena will assume control of the project in December, in an effort to ensure that this emblem of development in Mexico continues to serve the public interest.
