Mayan Train will incorporate 72% of local elements, thus generating sources of employment and facilitating the maintenance of the trains.
Maite Ramos, CEO of Alstom, announced that the convoys under construction for the Tren Maya project will include 72% locally sourced components.
Within the framework of the Second National Week of Transformative Infrastructure, Ramos highlighted that this figure is “very satisfactory” due to the economic boost it brings to the country.
High-strength aluminum, which cannot be obtained within national borders, is a key material for the construction of the Mayan Train convoys, and represents the remaining percentage of imported components.

Mayan Train will incorporate 72% of local elements in its convoys according to Alstom.
In 2021, Alstom signed an agreement with the federal government for the manufacture of these convoys, as well as for the production and implementation of signaling systems.
The ambitious long-term plan of the Tren Maya project contemplates the construction of 42 trains in total. The first convoy will be delivered in July of this year in Cancun, Quintana Roo.
Subsequently, in December, an additional 13 convoys will be delivered to the federal government, six of which will have undergone extensive testing, allowing them to start operating immediately.
