Mayan Train Registers Sustained Growth in Ticket Sales

The Mayan Train has seen a notable increase in ticket sales, registering an average monthly growth of 13 percent.
Since its inauguration in December 2023 until July of this year, it has transported 297,237 passengers who enjoy the various tourist attractions on its available sections.
Óscar David Lozano Águila, general director of the Maya Train, shared this data in a morning conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
During the conference, Lozano Águila detailed that the Maya Train began operations transporting an average of 10,851 people; in March 2024 the number rose to 45,091 passengers and in July it reached a record of 63,764 users, driven by the peak holiday season.

Commercial services of the Maya Train
Currently, the Maya Train offers eight commercial services at the following times:
- 9:00 hours Palenque-Cancun
- 9:30 hours Cancún-Palenque
- 7:00 hours Campeche-Cancún
- 16:30 hours Cancún-Campeche
- 7:00 hours Mérida-Playa del Carmen
- 17:30 hours Playa del Carmen-Mérida
- 11:45 hours Cancún-Mérida Teya
- 14:40 hours Mérida Teya-Cancún
Section 4 of the Maya Train, which runs from Izamal, Yucatan to Cancun, Quintana Roo, has been especially popular, accounting for 30 percent of total ticket sales, with 89,158 passengers as of July 29.
Diversity of passengers
Of the passengers in section 4, 43,743 are national, 21,582 are local, 6,253 are international, and 17,580 correspond to special discounted tickets for teachers, students, people with disabilities, and senior citizens.
In addition, the ticketing is broken down into 5,153 girls and boys and 84,005 adults. The tickets were purchased mainly at the ticket offices of the Maya Train stations, with 65,293 sales, and 23,865 through the official online pages.

Stations and tourist attractions
Section 4 of the Maya Train has 239 kilometers of electrified double track and five stations: Chichén Itzá, Valladolid, Nuevo Xcán, Leona Vicario and Cancún Airport.
These stations facilitate access to a variety of tourist attractions, such as Isla Holbox, Cenote Popol Vuh, the Maya Museum of Cancún, Pisté de Chichén Itzá, Isla Mujeres, the Nichupté Mangroves and the archaeological sites of San Miguelito and El Rey.
This sustained growth in ticket sales reflects the success of the Maya Train as a tourist transportation option in southeastern Mexico.
