The Mayan Train company, managed by the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), has launched a national tender to select the company in charge of maintaining the railway infrastructure of section 5 of the Tren Maya.
This section, which was completed and put into operation in February, now requires preventive and corrective maintenance work to ensure its operability.
The tender is underway and the technical and economic proposals of the interested companies will be received this Friday, with the decision scheduled for September 19.
Companies interested in the tender
Among the companies that have shown interest in participating in this bidding process are Grupo Asimex del Norte and TSO-NGE México, who asked questions during the consultation stage.
The winning company will be responsible for carrying out the maintenance of nearly 47 kilometers of electrified double track, part of the large Maya Train project, one of the main infrastructure works promoted by the federal government.
Unlike the first four sections of the Mayan Train, which were built by private companies and already had maintenance contracts for a period of five years, section 5 requires a separate bidding process to ensure its proper operation.

Maintenance work required
The contract stipulates that maintenance work includes inspections of the railway infrastructure, as well as corrective maintenance of the tracks and track devices.
The detailed tasks include inspections of tracks 1 and 2, platforms, buffer tracks, and other infrastructure related to train operation.
It is important to note that to ensure the quality of these works, the winning company must have highly trained technical personnel with proven experience in the maintenance of railway infrastructure.
In addition, the company must have experience in the maintenance of train tracks for medium or high speed passenger trains, something that is relatively new in Mexico due to the absence of this type of service in recent years.
Guarantees of operability
This bidding process aims to ensure that the Tren Maya, both in its cargo and passenger modes, continues to operate efficiently and safely.
Interested companies must submit all the required documentation to demonstrate their technical capacity and experience in the railway sector.
The successful bidder will be selected based on its technical and economic proposal, as well as its ability to meet the strict requirements established by the Tren Maya company.
The implementation of these works is essential to ensure that this project, which represents a significant investment for the development of southeastern Mexico, continues to be a pillar of connectivity and development for the communities and tourism of the region.
