During a morning press conference with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the governor of Quintana Roo, Mara Lezama Espinosa, highlighted the relevance of the Mayan Train for the development of the region.
With special emphasis on section 5, which connects Cancún with Tulum and crosses the emblematic Riviera Maya, Lezama underlined how this project has not only generated a significant economic impact, but has also become a pillar of social justice, particularly for Quintana Roo youth.
In the framework of International Youth Day, the governor highlighted that the Mayan Train offers new educational and employment opportunities for young people in the region.
Through programs such as the Professional Technical Bachelor in Railway Transport, taught by Conalep, and Railway Engineering at the Cancún Institute of Technology, hundreds of young people are preparing their future in the railway sector.

Economic and Social Impact of Section 5
Section 5 of the Maya Train, which runs along the entire Riviera Maya, is crucial for tourism in Latin America.
According to Mara Lezama, this section of the train promises to be one of the most active, generating an economic spillover that will benefit the surrounding communities and strengthen the link between investments and productive and social projects in the region.
In addition to its economic benefits, the Maya Train has also led to important archaeological discoveries, the recovery of historical sites and the renewal of communities.
Examples of these advances include the Nichupté bridge in Cancun, which is 60% complete and will solve security and civil protection problems, as well as the link between the train and Cozumel, facilitating access to the island for the millions of tourists who visit it every year.
Tourism Benefits and Regularization of Communities
The Mayan Train not only strengthens tourism in Quintana Roo, but has also allowed us to address long-standing social problems.
An example of this is the regularization of the Luis Donaldo Colosio colony in Playa del Carmen, an achievement that resolves decades of backlog and provides legal security to almost 4,000 families.
In addition, the governor highlighted the creation of the Jaguar Park in Tulum, a space of more than 2,900 hectares that combines environmental preservation with public enjoyment, offering archaeological sites, observation towers and access to beaches.
Economic Development and Infrastructure Growth
Another aspect that has driven the Mayan Train is the economic growth of Quintana Roo, especially in the construction sector.
In April, the state registered an 8.7% growth in its industrial activity, consolidating itself as the entity with the greatest increase in this area at the national level.
The “Felipe Carrillo Puerto” International Airport has also experienced notable growth. Inaugurated less than a year ago, it has already mobilized nearly 670 thousand passengers in more than 5,200 air operations.
It is expected that by the end of this year, the number of passengers will reach 1.4 million.

A Future of Shared Prosperity
Mara Lezama concluded that the Maya Train is more than just an infrastructure project; it is a tool for social well-being and shared prosperity, especially for Mayan communities that have been historically marginalized.
The Social Justice Train, as she called it, will mark a before and after in the history of Quintana Roo and the Mexican Southeast, contributing to the creation of a more equitable and prosperous future for all.
