The Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) has taken another step in the development of tourism in the Mexican southeast by announcing the construction of a new hotel as part of the Mayan Train route.
This luxurious complex will be located near the archaeological zone of Calakmul, Campeche, and will have an investment of 645.9 million pesos.
This is a large project that will offer top-quality accommodation and ecotourism activities that will allow visitors to enjoy the rich flora and fauna of the region.
The hotel’s location is strategic, as it will be just a few kilometers from Calakmul, an archaeological jewel declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The Sedena has already submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) the request to obtain the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and the project has been well received for its focus on sustainability and ecotourism.
Luxury facilities and services
The Calakmul hotel will be a large complex, with a surface area of 3.13 hectares and four towers that will house a total of 144 rooms.
In addition, guests will be able to enjoy facilities such as a dining room, a cafeteria area, a bar, a swimming pool, a gym, a spa and a temazcal, offering a complete relaxation and wellness experience.
The parking lot will have capacity for 392 vehicles, ensuring that visitors will have comfortable and safe access to the facilities.
Beyond accommodation, this hotel will also offer activities that will invite tourists to explore nature, including observation of flora and fauna, making the complex an ideal destination for ecotourism.
Construction is estimated to take around two years to complete, and the hotel’s useful life is projected at 50 years, with an ongoing program of preventive and corrective maintenance.

Connection with archaeological sites
One of the main advantages of this hotel is its proximity to Calakmul, as well as other important archaeological sites such as Balamku, Chicanná, Edzná and Xpujil.
This strategic location will facilitate tourists’ access to some of the most emblematic areas of the Mayan civilization, providing an unparalleled cultural experience.
The Calakmul hotel will be one of six complexes that Sedena is building along the route of the Maya Train.
These include other hotels in Tulum, Edzná, Palenque, Chichén Itzá and Uxmal, each located near an important archaeological site.
This network of hotels seeks to improve the tourist infrastructure of southeastern Mexico, while also offering visitors a deep immersion in the history and culture of the region.
Other hotel projects of the Mayan Train
The Calakmul hotel is part of a larger network of tourist complexes built by Sedena along the route of the Mayan Train.
Among them is the Hotel Edzná, which will be located just one kilometer from the archaeological zone of the same name, as well as the Hotel Tulum, which will be the largest with 352 rooms and an area of 13.5 hectares.
Other projects include the Hotel Palenque in Chiapas, the Hotel Chichén Itzá in Yucatán, and the Hotel Nuevo Uxmal, also in Yucatán.
Each of these hotels offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the historical and cultural richness of Mexico, combining the comfort of luxury facilities with proximity to some of the most important archaeological sites in the country.
