The launch of tickets for the long-awaited first trip of the Mayan Train, scheduled for December 16 from Campeche to Cancun, has generated a surprising response.
Just minutes after going on sale at 11:00 in the morning on the eticket website, all tickets were sold out, leaving many interested parties with a “Sold Out” message on their screens.
This phenomenon reflects the enormous expectation and enthusiasm that this transportation project has generated in Mexico.
Inauguration in Phases of the Maya Train Project
The Mayan Train project, promoted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will be inaugurated in three different stages.
The first phase, which includes the section from Campeche to Cancún, will be inaugurated on December 15. The second stage, which covers the journey from Palenque to Cancún, is scheduled for December 30, while the final phase is scheduled for February 29.
This project goes beyond rail transport, as it includes 11 complementary works that will enrich the experience of travelers.
Among them, there are six hotels located near the stations, two parks and four buildings dedicated to maintenance workshops, warehouses, accommodation for the National Guard, dining rooms and parking lots.
Hotels Built by the Secretariat of National Defense
The construction of these hotels is in charge of the Secretariat of National Defense, through the state company Grupo Aeroportuario, Ferroviario y de Servicios Auxiliares Olmeca-Maya-Mexica S.A de C.V. (GOMM).
These accommodation establishments will be strategically distributed along the Mayan Train route, providing comfort and services to passengers at key points such as Edzná and Calakmul in Campeche (sections 1 and 2); Nuevo Uxmal and Chichen Itzá in Yucatán (Section 3); Tulum in Quintana Roo (sections 5 to 7); and Palenque in Chiapas (section 1).
