Campeche Governor Layda Sansores San Román announced during her program “Martes del Jaguar” that the hotels associated with the Mayan Train in Campeche are scheduled to be inaugurated at the end of September.

The information provided by the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) also indicates that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has promised to invite conference attendees to spend a night in one of these new hotels after the opening ceremony, but this could have been taken as just a joke by the president.

Hotels in Strategic Archaeological Zones

These hotels are designed to attract adventure and ecotourism, so they have been strategically located near the most important archaeological sites in the state.

One of the hotels is located one kilometer from the entrance to the Edzná Archaeological Zone, where an archaeological museum linked to the Mayan Train project was recently opened.

The other hotel is located in the buffer zone of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, an area rich in biodiversity and historical heritage.

Attractions and Amenities for Visitors

The Hotel Tren Maya Edzná, with more than 100 rooms, will offer national and international visitors a complete experience.

This includes various amenities that invite a long stay to explore both the archaeological zone and the gastronomic and cultural offerings of the region.

On the other hand, the Hotel Tren Maya Calakmul, smaller with 52 rooms, has been built with a focus on environmental conservation, minimizing the ecological impact on the reserve.

In addition to accommodating tourists, the access roads to the archaeological zone have been rehabilitated, and the construction of a museum similar to that of Edzná is being considered.

A Commitment to Mayan Culture and Regional Development

Layda Sansores highlighted the federal government’s commitment to preserving the Mayan culture and the historical heritage of the Yucatan Peninsula.

The inauguration of these hotels is another step in fulfilling the promises made to the people of Campeche, before Sansores concludes her term.

These developments will boost tourism in the region while also contributing to the economic and cultural development of Campeche, strengthening its position as a key destination in southern Mexico.
