The expansion of Highway 180-D, which connects the Mayan Train to Cancun International Airport, is underway with notable progress.

The recent partial commissioning of the elevated bridge is a significant step toward the completion of the project, scheduled for this year.

Progress in the construction of the elevated bridge

The renovation of Highway 180-D is part of a 170 million pesos investment that seeks to improve the connection between the Maya Train station and the Cancun International Airport.

The work includes the expansion of the road, which originally had two lanes in each direction and will now have four.

The elevated bridge, which began construction in July 2023, is designed to relieve vehicular traffic on the north-south route, while traffic between the Train station and the Airport will benefit from a new route under the bridge.

Integration of Electric Buses and Environmental Benefits

The Mayan Train Cancun station already has seven electric buses, which will play a key role in transporting passengers between the stations and the Airport.

These buses, which can carry up to 47 passengers and their luggage, are prepared to operate at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour.

This service promises an efficient connection and a reduced environmental impact, aligning with the project’s sustainability initiatives.

Progress and Completion Expectations

The construction site is bustling with activity, with numerous workers busy installing rebar, cement, and signage.

Although the south-north section of the highway is still under renovation, the circulation of the first vehicles has helped improve traffic in the area.

It is expected that the work will continue to advance at a good pace and that the connection between the Maya Train and the Cancun International Airport will be fully operational before the end of the year.

This infrastructure improvement will be crucial to facilitate a more fluid and convenient intermodal transportation experience for users.
