Mayan Train Benefits the Vida y Esperanza Community
Development and Progress: it is the feeling of the residents who already have paved roads. Mayan Train Benefits the Vida y Esperanza Community.
The “Vida y Esperanza” community is experiencing a significant transformation with the arrival of important federal works such as the Mayan Train and the construction of vital infrastructure.
This small town, founded by older adults, is beginning to see the fruits of its name, becoming a symbol of progress and hope.
Infrastructure Transformation
May 18 will be remembered as an emblematic day for “Life and Hope.” On this date, the community celebrated the symbolic inauguration of its access paving, which has drastically changed the lives of its inhabitants.
Previously, traveling the six and a half kilometers to the center of the town took up to three hours. Now, with the paving of the road, that time has been significantly reduced.
Rosa Yolanda, daughter of Feliciano and Francisca, the founders of the community, expressed her joy and pride: “We feel proud and happy that our President of the Republic has completed the highway for us. Now we no longer have to be begging for her.”
Economic Boost and Self-cultivation
Improved infrastructure has not only facilitated mobility but also opened up new economic opportunities for residents.
The community has invited restaurateurs and hoteliers to come and purchase their organic products, which include cilantro, habanero chili and papaya, among others.
This initiative not only helps the local economy, but also promotes the consumption of fresh and organic products.
Raúl Ernesto Méndez Briceño, president of the “Selva Maroma” Committee, highlighted that “Vida y Esperanza” houses approximately 350 people who live off their self-cultivation.
The opening of the road has filled the community with hope for a more prosperous future, although it has also raised certain fears about the arrival of invaders.
Challenges and Land Protection
Despite the progress, the community faces the challenge of protecting its lands from possible invasions.
Raúl Ernesto Méndez commented on concerns that the new access could attract people interested in invading the land and taking advantage of the hard work it has taken residents to build their allotment and animal husbandry projects.
Méndez also called on authorities at all levels of government to pay more attention to the countryside and its needs. He highlighted that the pandemic has shown the importance of diversifying the economy and not depending solely on tourism and politics.

The “Vida y Esperanza” community is experiencing a renaissance thanks to federal works and the improvement of its infrastructure.
However, it is crucial that authorities continue to support this and other rural communities to ensure sustainable development and avoid problems such as invasions.
With a focus on economic diversification and strengthening rural activities, “Vida y Esperanza” can become a model of progress and self-sufficiency for other communities in the region.
