Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador will inaugurate the first seven-car train of the Mayan Train project this Friday, September 20.
The event will begin at the Cancún station, where the president will board the train that will take him to Mérida Teya, marking an important advance in the emblematic project in the Mexican southeast.
This train will have several amenities, including cars with restaurants and bedrooms, providing passengers with a more complete and comfortable travel experience.
The Cancún-Mérida route will be one of the main routes of the railway system, connecting important tourist and cultural centers in the region.
Hotel opening in Chichén Itzá
During the tour, López Obrador will also officially open one of the six hotels that are part of the Mayan Train.
This hotel is located at the Chichén Itzá station, a place of enormous archaeological and tourist importance.
The inauguration of this accommodation will allow visitors to the area to enjoy a stay close to one of the wonders of the world, the pyramid of Kukulkan, and will facilitate access to the archaeological zone.
The president will be accompanied by governors and other local authorities, who will also participate in the tour of the archaeological zone of Chichén Itzá before continuing the trip to Mérida.

Project supervision and more openings
López Obrador explained that, once the event in Chichén Itzá is over, the train will continue its journey to Mérida, where it is scheduled to take a break to rest.
Later, the president and the president-elect will travel to Oaxaca to supervise the construction of roads in the region of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, as part of the infrastructure projects that are still underway throughout the country.
The day will also include the delivery of certificates of construction of more than 200 artisanal roads in Oaxaca, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to the development of infrastructure in rural and hard-to-reach areas.
Another step in the progress of the Mayan Train
The Maya Train is one of the most important projects of López Obrador’s six-year term, with the aim of connecting various areas of southeastern Mexico, promoting tourism and economic development.
The inauguration of the first seven-car train represents a significant advance, and with the inauguration of the hotel in Chichén Itzá, the foundations are consolidated to attract more national and international tourists to the region.
