In her inauguration speech as president of Mexico on October 1, Claudia Sheinbaum revealed a grand plan for the expansion of the Mayan Train.
During the event in San Lázaro, the president detailed that one of the first projects of her government will be to extend the route of the Mayan Train to the Port of Progreso in Yucatán, a measure that aims to improve the connectivity of the peninsula and boost tourism in the region.
New Routes on the horizon
Sheinbaum made it clear that her administration will continue with the railway projects initiated by Andrés Manuel López Obrador and that it will seek to double the railway lines built in the previous government.
The president stressed her intention to develop more than three thousand kilometers of new train lines on three priority routes: from Mexico City to Pachuca, from the capital to Nuevo Laredo, and a third that will connect Mexico City with Nogales.
These new routes are part of a large plan to modernize railway transport in Mexico.
Among the news that Sheinbaum announced is the recovery of a passenger train that will connect Mexico City with the port of Veracruz, a project that promises to revive a historic communication route.
With this, the president reaffirmed her commitment to promote railway transport as a tourist tool and as an engine of economic development.

Boosting cargo transport
During her speech, Sheinbaum also referred to the importance of the Maya Train in the field of cargo.
Although the project was conceived primarily for tourism purposes, the president stressed the need to develop the transport of goods by train.
The Mayan Train stations, distributed in five states in the southeast of Mexico, are destined to become important logistics nodes for the transport of fuels and other products.

Before concluding her speech, Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed her commitment to the continuity of the Fourth Transformation, referring to this new stage as the “second floor” of said project.
She emphasized that she was not assuming power alone, but rather that she was doing so on behalf of all the citizens who have supported this movement.
With this message, she made clear her intention to continue building on the foundations established by her predecessor, López Obrador, while introducing new initiatives, such as the expansion of the Mayan Train and the strengthening of the railway infrastructure throughout the country.
