Jorge Suárez Vela, head of the Secretariat of Agricultural, Forestry and Fisheries Development (SEDAFOP), announced that the Mayan Train could be a great boost for livestock activity in Tabasco.

Thanks to this project, producers from Tenosique and Balancán will have the opportunity to send meat and food through the Mayan Train freight cars.

Benefits for farmers

Suárez Vela explained that historically, the railway industry in Mexico has been an engine for the increase in livestock activity.

With the Mayan Train, Tabasco producers will be able to access new markets and improve the distribution of their products. This benefit translates into greater economic dynamism for the region and an improvement in the competitiveness of local ranchers.

Rustling reduction

During the conference, Suárez Vela also addressed the issue of cattle rustling, or cattle theft, which has been a constant concern for Tabasco producers.

The official assured that the incidence of this crime is decreasing in the entity, which is good news for ranchers who seek to protect their investments and maintain the stability of their businesses.

The Mayan Train not only represents an improvement in transportation infrastructure for southeastern Mexico, but also promises to be a significant boost for livestock farming in Tabasco.

With improved opportunities for product shipping and a decrease in livestock theft, local producers can look forward to a more prosperous and secure future.

The importance of livestock

Livestock farming is a fundamental economic activity for many regions of Mexico, and Tabasco is no exception.

This sector not only provides essential foodstuffs such as meat and milk, but also generates employment and livelihood for thousands of families. Livestock farming contributes significantly to the country’s agricultural Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is a pillar of food security.

The implementation of the Mayan Train opens new opportunities for ranchers, facilitating access to broader markets and improving transportation logistics.

This project can help reduce shipping costs and increase the competitiveness of Tabasco products in the national and international market.

Additionally, improved transportation infrastructure can attract investment and encourage the development of more efficient technologies and practices in livestock production. This, in turn, can increase the quality of products and strengthen the local economy.

The promotion of livestock farming through the Mayan Train not only benefits Tabasco producers, but also strengthens Mexico’s agricultural sector, promoting sustainable and equitable development in the region.
