- Mayan Train Could Reach Sinaloa: This Is What We Know
During her recent visit to southern Sinaloa, Mexico’s president-elect, Claudia Sheinbaum, revealed details about the possibility of extending passenger train routes to the north of the country, specifically to Sinaloa.
Accompanied by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, Sheinbaum highlighted the importance of resuming this type of transportation, recalling the efforts of the current administration to reactivate railway routes in southeastern Mexico.
Sheinbaum made special mention of how, during the neoliberal era, former President Ernesto Zedillo privatized the trains with the promise of modernizing them, however, they never reached the promised level.
Now, the incoming administration seeks to correct this course, betting on the reactivation of passenger train routes, but this time with a focus on the northern part of the country.

Proposal for New Train Routes in Mexico
The president-elect has in mind the implementation of three new railway routes for passengers.
These routes include the train that will connect the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) terminal with Pachuca; another that will link Mexico City with Querétaro and Guadalajara; and a third that will go from the capital to San Luis Potosí, Monterrey and Nuevo Laredo.
Sheinbaum stressed that these new trains will be electric and will be built in Mexico, taking advantage of both the experience of military engineers and collaboration with private companies.
This approach will not only modernize railway transport in the country, but also seeks to reduce the carbon footprint and promote local industry.

Potential Impact in Sinaloa
Although the project is still in the preliminary stages, the possible inclusion of Sinaloa in the revitalized rail routes could mean a major boost for the region.
Connecting to other major cities in the country through a modern and efficient train would open up new opportunities for trade, tourism and mobility for the inhabitants of Sinaloa.
The initiative to reintroduce passenger trains in Mexico represents an effort to reconnect regions that for years have been isolated in terms of public transportation.
For Sinaloa, this could mark the beginning of a new era of development, where efficient connectivity drives economic and social growth, making this northwestern state an integral part of a more connected and modern country.

What’s Next for the Project
As the Sheinbaum administration moves forward with its plans, more details about the routes and construction schedule are expected to be presented.
The president-elect has made clear her commitment to rail infrastructure, noting that this is a long-term project that will require cooperation between the federal government, the armed forces, and the private sector to become a reality.
The next few months will be crucial in defining how these new train routes will transform the transportation landscape in Mexico, and whether Sinaloa will ultimately become a key point in this network of rail connections.
