Mayan Train Complies with Environmental Mitigation Measures

The Mayan Train represents one of the most important infrastructure projects for the development of southeastern Mexico, and since its inception, it has maintained respect for and protection of the environment as its central focus.

In this regard, the Government of Mexico reaffirms its commitment to implementing all necessary actions to mitigate potential impacts resulting from the construction and operation of the Mayan Train, particularly in sensitive areas such as Section 5.

As part of the planning and execution process, various environmental mitigation strategies have been established, designed in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).

These strategies include reforestation of affected areas, the protection of endemic flora and fauna, the responsible management of waste generated by the project, and the restoration of potentially affected ecosystems.

Furthermore, strict controls have been maintained to ensure the preservation of water bodies and the recovery of disturbed soils.

Mayan Train has Mobilized 1.7 Million People

The Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), responsible for the execution of important stages of the project, has assumed the task of rigorously complying with the environmental provisions established by the competent authorities.

Under the constant supervision of Semarnat, military engineers have made progress in implementing the ordered measures, ensuring that each action is carried out in accordance with current regulations and international environmental protection standards.

During a recent press conference, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo highlighted that 95% of the mitigation actions required by Semarnat have already been executed by the Sedena team.

However, it is acknowledged that there are still permits and procedures in the process of regularization, which is part of an ongoing effort to ensure the complete legality and transparency of the project.

Environment Secretary Alicia Bárcena has indicated that administrative procedures remain open until all environmental obligations are fully met.

The Federal Government reiterates that the protection of the natural environment is an unavoidable priority in the development of the Mayan Train.

Therefore, we will continue to work collaboratively with the involved agencies and participating companies until full compliance with the environmental mitigation measures is achieved.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources will keep the file open and maintain ongoing monitoring, ensuring that the commitments made are respected and that the project consolidates itself as a benchmark for environmental responsibility and sustainable development for Mexico.

To date, the Mayan Train complies with 95% of the environmental mitigation measures, and we will continue to work closely with the relevant entities to fully implement these measures.
