Introducing the ‘Janal’ Restaurant on the Mayan Train: A New Gastronomic and Cultural Experience in Southeastern Mexico.

The Mayan Train is pleased to announce the opening of its newest offering: the ‘Janal’ Restaurant, an innovative culinary concept that transforms the travel experience through the authentic flavors of the region.

This project represents a firm step toward integrating tourism with the rich gastronomy and culture of southeastern Mexico.

As part of a vision focused on regional development, the Maya Train has established a strategic alliance with leading figures in the area’s restaurant and hotel industry.

This collaboration aims to strengthen the tourism offerings, promote local talent, and showcase the country’s culinary identity to national and international visitors.

The ‘Janal’ Restaurant stands out for its interior design, inspired by the work of renowned Mexican architect Luis Barragán.

The use of architectural elements such as natural light, vibrant colors, and geometric shapes blends harmoniously with the surrounding jungle landscape, thanks to panoramic windows that offer unparalleled views throughout the journey.

During the inaugural trip, on the leg connecting Mérida with Izamal and back, passengers had the opportunity to enjoy a special menu carefully selected for the occasion.

Among the dishes offered were emblematic recipes from the region, such as brazo de reina (a rolled cake), panuchos (corn tortillas), chayitas (a type of squash), and the traditional papaya candy, thus highlighting local ingredients and the talent of the participating chefs.

As part of this experience, the official launch of Tren Maya Beer took place, an exclusive beverage created to complement and enhance the onboard culinary offerings.

This product, developed specifically for the project, offers diners the chance to enjoy a unique pairing in a sophisticated and comfortable setting.

The ‘Janal’ Restaurant service will soon be available in all categories of the Maya Train: ‘Xiinbal’ for standard trips, ‘Patal’ for long-distance journeys, and the ‘Janal’ gourmet option.

In this way, the Maya Train reaffirms its commitment to offering innovative and high-quality alternatives, solidifying rail transport as a benchmark for hospitality, culture, and development in southeastern Mexico.
