In just 70 days of operation, the Mayan Train has marked an achievement by traveling 202,658 kilometers with its five convoys, equivalent to 46 crossings from Cancun to Tijuana.

This was highlighted by Óscar David Lozano Águila, general director of Tren Maya S.A. de C.V., during a presentation that outlined the promising future of this transformative project at President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s morning conference.

Expansion and Efficiency: The New Mayan Train Schedules

Starting March 1, the Maya Train will expand its services, demonstrating its effectiveness and responding to growing demand. These are the new frequencies and schedules:

  • Six daily services will connect Mérida with Cancún at strategic times to maximize passenger convenience.
  • Four daily services will facilitate transit between Campeche and Mérida, ensuring fluid and efficient connections.
  • Two direct daily services will link Palenque with Campeche, opening new routes of exploration and connectivity.

Positive Impact: Passengers and Favorite Destinations

The Mayan Train route, which extends from Palenque to Cancún, has seen the addition of two vital new stations: Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen.

During these first 70 days, the service has benefited 64,370 passengers, with Mérida Teya, Cancún Airport, San Francisco Campeche and Valladolid being the most frequented destinations.

With an average occupancy rate of 84%, Tren Maya’s diesel trains, with a capacity of 221 passengers, have proven to be an effective and popular mobility solution.

The Mérida Teya – Cancún Airport route leads the demand, closely followed by other key connections, reflecting the importance of the train in daily life and regional tourism.

Innovation in Ticket Sales

Ticket sales continue to grow, with the physical box office being the main preference, totaling 58,012 tickets sold at stations and strategic commercial points.

In addition, the online option has recorded 6,358 transactions, offering additional facilities and flexibility for users.
